swmbo and I made the annual trip to the local mission today, for the Día de Muertos celebration (Day of the dead).

I love the color and costume, the dancing and the rather excellent Mexican food! :D

Here are a selection of the characters from todays event:

some characters indeed. lovely series, the skeleton with the cigarette is great, loving the portraits too.
Thanks Beth - you can always guarantee some great people watching at the event, and a big chicken burrito :)

Another nice haul Chris. They are all looking a bit more healthy than in previous years though. Love the second one. That would be great in some sort of plate simulation. :)
Thanks Pete - I had to keep reminding people not to smile :D :D :D

I think the film sim in NIK also gave people a super-healthy color - seemed to suit the brighter aspects of the decoration, so I went with it rather than my original B&W idea

Hey Chris;

The CLARITY and QUALITY of those captures are sublime....!!!! I really must try pick up a X-Pro1 at some stage, stunning.
Worth a look Peter - glad you liked 'em

Nice captures and a very different view of the celebrations than the night time approach I took to a similar celebration here in Las Vegas. Many people mistakenly compare Dia de Los Muertos with the American Halloween but the truth is the cultural significance of the events is very different. Dia de Los Muertos is actually a very reverent celebration of the life of family members, ancestors and all others who have passed from the world of the living before us. It is a celebration rich in history and culture and personally even though I am not of Latino or Spanish descent it is one of my most beloved days of the year. I try to travel someplace new every year to take in the celebrations which actually are typically spread out over a period of three days.

Thanks Bobby - I really enjoy the festival feel of the whole thing, and you can just feel the echoes from the past resonating with the present day
