Dean Village

Is there a subject more suited to b&w than stone buildings?

Thanks, Milan. To be honest, I haven't quite bonded with it yet. Maybe I will after a few weeks, we shall see. It's a really good camera, no question, but I'm so used to single fixed-lens cameras, and a different way of thinking. I'm not sure I really like the way it renders some things. For instance, in the photo above, the clouds look to me like they have been imported from another shot. Not sure why. So, there are just little touches here and there that make me wonder. That said, I'm enjoying the experience of learning about dslr cameras, and I've already got a couple of useful shots out of it.

Useful shot it is, bonding I am sure you will. It just takes time as one is growing older:eek: By the way or rather, is this a village close to the huge bridges going north Rob. I think I have been there. Lovely shot by the way.

You are thinking of South Queensferry, Ivar, which is also very nice. Dean Village is actually very close to Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh. But you have to know where to look. I will take you next time, and we can stand in this spot, while you tell me I am doing everything wrong :)

Looking forward to it, it might be sooner than you think, seeing the mistakes I mean:rolleyes:

So put a 50mm on it and leave all your other lens at home - instant fixed lens camera. Or a 24, 35, 85, whatever.

Hi Rob,

I get what you mean about the clouds. It may be worth looking at some of your adjustments in post processing. You could always try some of the film based processing pre-sets like VSCO. There are few free ones for light room too at times. I got a Kodak Gold set which is OK but prefer to work it up myself mostly.
