Encouraged by Darren and his Bridal Veil Waterfall, I've decided to post this one as a thread although it is in the gallery, many of you my of seen it I'm sure ;)
This was my first ever ND filtered shot (ND 8). If I remembered rightly, it's was a 6 sec exposure, f11, ISO 100.
The light was fading a lot hence quite a lengthy exposure.
PP was quite heavy on this one, wasn't sure what I was doing last autumn with LR. But I like the vibrant autumn feel that has resulted with my fluke editing skills at the time. Lol
I'm going to try and post this using Flickr, hope it works :/

D'you know, as much as I like this, I find myself drawn very much to the foreground and keep scrolling to make a crop with the silkie brook running diagonally across the shot, yes Dan it's a square crop but I find the colours either side just hit the mark for me, wish I had taken it...good one :)
 
Great colours and nice contrast between the soft water and the sharp leaves. I know I'm biased but Kev's idea will work really well I think. How about something like this?

I like the original (because the squareness has to be stopped!) - mainly because you get the perspective of the hill, and the hint of the trees with the full crop image.


Props to Dan for having the b@lls to crop the trees out in the first place - many people would have 'tried to get it all in' and would not have nailed it.

The ND filter has produced an excellent image - and I like the saturation in the colours in PP.

Must use my ND more - it's going rusty through lack of use in my camera bag!

I should of posted this ages ago (but then I wouldn't of had anything for the autumn theme)

I do like the spuare crop as it does bring out the foreground, however, the perspective of the foreground is then lost... It seems like the depth of what was intended is now absent. I wanted to get the stream in the shot and make that as the main subject. Many thanks anyway pete :)

Thanks chris, my lens is no where near wide enough for the trees in the shot too, but if I had a wider lens, I still wouldn't of used it for this particular shot. Your right, it wouldn't of worked :)
 
There are two great images here. The original provides a context for the environment and the closer square crop brings the details into sharp focus. I like them both. If I had to choose just one, I couldn't!
 
Yes! Sorry dude, yeah, I used the BB code like mentioned last week to begin with, didn't realise that the format was in small (scratching my head at this time) then realised I could make it bigger. Woohoo!
I tried to use the other code before (about 6 months ago) but gave up pathetically easy because it didn't work.
But thanks to the new info regarding using the correct code, now I can. Nice one! :) :) :)
 
Yeah HTML is turned off on the site but bb code works one thing I have noticed is if you make a slight change and republish the picture in LR the picture comes up as being unavailable from Flickr here if you have already posted it
 
Where is this delf nature resurve Dan?
I only ask as we get an huge amount of traffic to this page of the site ... 350 in the last month alone! I keep noticing it, and its happened so much now that I want to know more about delf nature reserve my self!
 
Wow, alot of suprising interest!
This nature reserve lies in the peak district, its to the west of a place called Stoney Middleton (A623) just after the Eyam turning (B6521) on the right hand side, opposite the huge quarry works.

It's probably the most beautiful places I've been so far! And that was over a year ago.
It has so many unique and very historical features, and not to mention a deep virtical cave that's been carved away by water over many years..... Yes, I was tempted, but also sensible to refuse exploring as no climbing kit was available! Lol. And there is a part towards the very back of the reserve following upstream that's breath taking!! I was so stunned I couldn't get my camera out! Amazing!

I really would love to revisit that place. REALLY would now you've mentioned it.
I'll see if I can find a link to some research page later today :)
 
That would be good Dan, since so many people are finding this page it would be good to try and provide them with some useful info!
There doesn't seem to be a lot online about the place!
It's a shame you didn't take more pictures ... I'm half tempted to set up a little holding page website with whatever info we can find on the place
 
Bizzare as it seems, the road (A623) is called The Dale, however in the Phillips Street maps (Derbyshire) it's called Delf.
I thought it was a typo in a road map which is unlikely, however I did do some research into The Dale and it didn't display much more either. I'll look into it more.
How do I do a location share on here?
 
go to google maps
in the left hand column, top right there is a link logo
click that
get the link code from the top box
put it between these [ maps][ /maps] (without the spaces)
