DP1 + Yellow 8 + B/W

The Dp2 and DP1 are 49mm, but the DP3 is 52mm - which is useful, as I have some 52mm filters from my days with the X100.

I'll get the Hoya.


I'm with Pete on the B+W. They are a little more pricey but they are really well made.

You can always go with the 52 and get a 49 to 52 step up ring. Those are really cheap.
 


This is a very good article Julian. He has a very valid point about the ISO. I was using 100 the other day but I may try pushing it to 400 for B/W. Another good point on the film. I have been shooting ISO 100 film for the last few months so it's really not a problem for me.

I am about to start cleaning out camera stuff over our Xmas holiday. I'm keeping the DP's, the new X100, and the GR. The interchangeable lens cameras are going on Ebay. I seem never use them. My biggest regret is buying that Fuji 56mm F1.2. I have used that lens exactly 3 times and never got a shot with it I like. These little cameras have good enough image quality for me and I don't have to change lenses or feel like I need to carry around a lot of lenses. I have modified a Domke bag so I can get all 5 cameras in it for my road trips.

Steve the Merrill's will comfortably shoot very high iso, I have shot Raw 1600 & 3200 iso then in SPP in the Monochrome development mode, choose the Blue channel from the colour wheel. Barely any noise at all, if a bit of noise is wanted allow a bit of the red channel in. The layers are not in practice coloured layers, each layer interprets the amount of colour from the luminance values The top layer they choose to find the values within the blue spectrum ,middle the Green and lower layer the red. The layer on top which interprets the blue's of the scene , needs a lot less amplifying, hence a lot less noise. A lot less light gets to the lowest red layer, having to first pass through both the Blue and green layers, so the amplified signals to boost the signals to make the data usable gets a bit scrambled. A shame really that Sigma does not do as Leica have and make the sensor Luminance only, I am sure there would be a strong market and profitable although not huge. But using the Blue layers data is pretty good for B+W.

Steve that made me smile as I thought to myself when writing the above, whether I aught to post it as I was feeling an idiot. Then I thought heck I probably am , post anyway. I have no idea what you know really and I do not wish to say things that you already know. I wrote it anyway hoping that at least the little I know if someone can use even a sentence or two it cannot be a bad thing.
I see sometimes you say you shoot such and such an image in jpeg. Everything I refer to is in Raw as I dont use Jpegs at all. The reason being , the ability to alter so many parameters of a Raw file and not being an expert in exposure that is handy, it covers a lot of mistakes, Also as with Merrill's the B+W from raw is the best way forward it appears, thirdly it is a kind of copyright evidence. I read so often of peoples images being taken and used, all they have had to do is produce the raw file and hey presto there is most often a quick conclusion to benefit the creator as you cannot really argue against someone holding a raw file. ( but really I' m not sure if I care if someone uses my images, as long as they dont make money ) Thats long winded.

Yes Steve looking forward to seeing your results as said Raw files is the way for processing B+W in SPP.
