Critique Welcomed Edge Of The Prairie

Spotted the red barn on Sunday, while looking for Aspen trees to photograph, so went back early this morning to shoot it as the sun came up.

Just south of Flagstaff AZ.

Very nice, Chris. Weird sky - almost looks like you've dropped it in from another scene, which I'm 100% sure you haven't. Adds to the slightly eerie feel. Mind you, I haven't finished my morning coffee yet...

So does that interesting sky detract from the image or pull the eyes away from the barn, the subject of the picture . A bit too busy maybe? Just for discussion mind you.
Nevertheless a nice sunny and attractive image.

Hope you don't mind me crashing the party with one of my own, Chris, but here's one I did at the weekend which has a sky which just doesn't belong with the rest of the image. Other than b&w conversion, I don't know what to do with it.

Superb Chris. Magnificent sky and to be there when it like it is, wonderful. Been browsing images from the X-T1 tonight. very impressed.

Very pretty piece of Americana, Chris.
Thanks Brian - been searching for a red barn in a field for ages!

It was a bit wild, but I also used a CPL filter, and I think that may have over emphasized it!

Oooooh nice shot! RGB!
Brilliant Dave, missed that completed - RGB :)

Super stuff Chris. It has a nice touch of unreal about it. Was there a little house too?!
Indeed there was Pete - how did you know? ;)

Thanks Tom - I agree, but I have an answer - see below!

B&W Rob I'd say - lovely textures!

Thanks Julian - X-T1 has been solid so far

And here's how film 'sees' it - Fuji G617 Panoramic Camera with Velvia 50 ASA Film

A little more subdued perhaps

Also love the Velvia Chris. I do prefer the grass in the Velvia but am aware that and I have no doubt could be matched in the X-T1 image. That is though coming from someone who has a preference for the subdued ,
The Fuji G617 is quite a camera. I do love digital for all its accessibility, easy to shoot away and practice, learn a lot over a shorter period, children can use it randomly without the expense. It is fast to turn round images.
Yet as you show here and have and many here there is and always will be a place for film.

Ah, I don't know Rob. I think everything here is pretty compatible. For a colour landscape I have seen a lot worse. I don't think the sky detracts from or enhances the image. I actually like seeing the bigger cloud about to appear from the right about to roll over the hill. B/W can add drama to the sky but so often it makes it all a bit too melodramatic for my liking with blues becoming almost black and too much contrast taking over. Just my tuppence worth.

Much have been said and I can ad very little but I like it, more so the first one. My eyes go from the red to the blue and I see no problem with that.
