EXIF date info

I just bought a D700 for a friend in the US; I felt obliged to 'test' it for him, the exif info on the date (which I did not set just yet), displays in Feb 2010, as a GMT time. does that mean it originally came from the UK?

I would have thought its just a default setting according to the D80 manual I downloaded it states GMT as being the default setting so its likely the same on other Nikons

The actual wording is

two days of charging will power the clock for about one month. If flashes
in the control panel, the clock battery is exhausted and the clock has been reset to a time starting at
2006.01.01.00:00:00 GMT. Set the clock to the correct date and time.

Yeah, but that could just be the English manual ... :)

... I would guess that different countries cameras default to the local language, so maybe they dot he same for timezone?

no idea from me ...

What do your other Cameras do Peter?

Sorry forgot to mention somehow the link I hit was the US Nikon site (google seems to show a preference for the other side of the pond) It didnt matter because I got all the info I needed ;)

At the moment Im just hoping I dont get outbid on this

pretty comprehensive kit :D

Not bad, although that sb28 won't work fully (as he says) with the d80 ... And that lens won't go wide ...
Not deal breakers, but worth taking into account

Hang over from when Blighty ruled the Seven Seas, set the time for the world, etc etc

I had realised both those points Hamish as most of my photography is outside the flashgun isnt that big an issue anyway I did mail him and it would seem the problem is studio related when they have tried using the flash as a slave master the pop up does work! As for the wide angle problem I can get a 18-300 zoom for £100 (£20 more than a 70-300 for the same camera would have been £200+ for a budget model)

I'm wondering (slightly off topic) why we can't get the camera to include our name with each image?

you can. on some cameras you can input a copyright symbol and your name, records it in the exif info

and yes, having a 24mm that actually works as a 24, is quite something. very tempting. hmmm

but then yet other clients ask for video and that is something I would quite like to be able to offer. hmmm

the fuji x-pro 1 has a timezone option, it was set to gmt when i purchased it. so i'd assume it's the default as i and the seller were located in the US. none of my canons ever had that option.

rob - i have (or had at one point in time, must remember to check tonight) lightroom setup to add my name to the exif data automagically.

I've set my Canon up with my name embedded in the Exif when the photograph is taken.
