Went to Ledbury Carnival today ... had a nice pint of cider and a hot pork roll and wondered round pointing the x100 at things

A little white toy dog ... and a funny look off Hannahs dad when i told him how much the camera was ... ... ...
Really enjoying the camera i have to say, its great having a bit of kit i can rely on in these circumstances to take great photos without ... well, being a d3! I took the d3 last time ... didn't take any photos, made me feel to self conscious in all the masses of people. Even Hannahs family are very conscious of the d3... they barely noticed me with the x100
That said, i do have a few niggles ... The speed of focus bugs me a little ... but then, being used to a d3 with a 24-70, the speed of focus of most things bothers me... phase detect, what ever anyone says, is not as good as the contrast detect... not as fast, and not as reliable ...
not to mention the slightly questionable afs focus point that moves with the parallax correction.
The auto iso on off control being buried in the menu is annoying too ... it is on the d3 of course, but when shooting i leave the menu at the right place to get to it quickly ... the fuji doesnt seem to respond in the same way ...
These are seemingly well documented issues that i thought i would not worry about ... and i dont think i will, once i am 100% used to the camera ... for now though, they do niggle when im trying to think quickly
Id like to think that its pretty obvious that im making progress in getting used to it when looking at the above photos though ... especially the last one
And I do think that these are just the niggles of early use rather than anything else. i suspect a lot of the reports and comments on the internet are snap judgements that dont take into account a learning curve!

Its a graet set of pics and it is often a great time to leave the big gun at home we (photographers) should always accept that there are times when small is best ;)

Great set Hamish, i saw these on FB Earlier............!!

Cheers guys!
Yeah, moaning aside ... The camera might have some idiosyncrasies, but I got pretty much every shot I went for ... And despite the cameras size, the quality is definitely all there ... An experience from a compact digital camera I have never previously had!

Man, that bug where the camera only takes pictures including babies and kids is a killer - not sure how I'd cope with that! ;)

Kidding aside - some very nice shots there - demonstrating the image quality and some nice DOF

The Magenta colour of that top comes through very strong - was it like that in real life?

You using the case, or just holding in the hand?

That magenta is my doing in the pp using the vibrance slider ... Thought it suited subject matter

I have the leather case ...
I'm looking at getting an additional grip for it though
I had a grip for my m6 and have once for my r2a ... I guess it's being used to an slr, but I like a more firm hold of the camera that let's me grip less tightly if that makes sence?

Depending on the costs, you will probably find a Thumbs-Up will do the job - it certainly did with the M8 / M9. If you can wait till next week, when I'm back in the UK, I can lend you the one from my M8. It will probably be slightly too long for the X100 by the look of the photos but it will give you an idea.

That would be great Pete!
Ive been meaning to ask how long you intended to let me borrow the c3?
I have only managed 1 3/4 films so far ...
I have had the pram with me most times I've left the house lately so it's not been so easy to take out...

Sort of linked to your comments on the X100. Leica have recently supplied some cameras to a photo agency, the deal being that the best shots are used for Leica marketing. The photographers got an M9 each and a couple of the new medium format SLR to share. They all said that they take a lot more pics with the M9's because people don't perceive them to be a pro camera and dont have a hang up being photographed with it. Guess the same goes for the X100 and any other range finder or compact. The difference being that cameras like the M9 and X100 can match the quality of an SLR.

No rush with the C3 - I think Asun had it nearly 2 years!! I'll send the Thumbs-up over early next week.

It is certainly noticeable how differently people behave in front of the M9 compared with the D3. You see a different effect with MF and LF though as usually there is nothing candid about the shots and people tend to compose themselves in front of the camera. They have made a conscious decision to have their picture taken and try to respond to the event. The trick of course is getting the right response.
