Kind of makes me think that perhaps one could overthink metering with B+W film, and simply doing some version of Sunny 16 with an extra stop for good measure could work well?
When I'm shooting analogue these days I tend to rely more on the Sunny 16 Rule than a meter, assuming the camera even has a functioning one. When shooting with my XA it's not an issue; the XA takes care of the metering. But with anything else (even if the meter is functional, such as with my Oly OM2n, my Canon F1 or my Yashica LM) I'll use my own version of the Sunny 16,...which is to say Sunny 11. I'm generally pretty satisfied with the exposures.
