I see you've been meeting my old mate, Phil Flash 
Looks like you got it pretty well dialed in Darren - maybe just a touch of exposure comp on the flash to boost it a little more?
Most people just end up with either oodles of blackness or white deer in the headlights people on their first attempts, so well done on getting it balanced first time.
What mode were you in on the camera as a matter of interest?

i use manual or aperture priority most of time chris, i think this was Manual..........just set flash on ETTL & let it do its thing..........lol

If you use the Pre Flash on the cameras * button, it will meter that flash from the subject and set exposure before you actually take the shot - I use this a lot when I have time.
I also pi$$ about with the flash exposure compensation to fine tune - very easy to tweak when you get the hang of it, you have the option of doing it on camera, or on flash.

I reckon it's a self-portrait myself. You can clearly see she is manipulating some sort of remote release!!

Don't think the Canon flash guns come with gels - but you can get a warm Gold StoFen diffuser to do the job

She's ****** off because the cheap tripod head she's using just failed, and the horizon has gone all wonky - just look at that face!
