So far the weather has been uniformly dull, and all these shots are on auto exposure, with me choosing the aperture. Looking forward to seeing skies with more detail...

Actually, seeing them all on one page like this, I do prefer the originals :)

Thanks, Brian. Thankfully it is not case of either-or. I can have both :)

Now I'm liking the last one more and more...

Looking good Rob - which B&W film were you using?

might be worth trying a yellow filter for your B&W to help with skies and tonality (especially when the fog lifts!)

I like "Waverley" also, Rob. Should have commented on it before. Add some sepia and you have another 19th C Edinburgh image.

Ha. You are right, Chris. A yellow filter would be useful right now. I forgot to mention I used HP5.

Thanks, Brian. I did try some sepia, but it didn't quite work for me. This one has a wee bit selenium in the mix.

I also like the shot of Waverley station and especially like the cool PP you have used. Trees is great also and gritty, grainy PP gives it a very Eastern European feel I think (probably a foretaste of what an independent Scotland would turn out like - that Salmond is a latent Orwellian monster I'm telling you ;) ). My favourite though is the painting. :) And I'd love to see the Victoria Street shot worked up. :)

Something like this?

Victoria Street fn1 by RobMacKillop, on Flickr

The painting is of James Clark Maxwell, whom Einstein regarded as the greatest scientist since Newton. He was an Edinburgh lad, and his house is a now a museum come meeting place for physicists and mathematicians. I arrived to be told that you have to make an appointment, and they were just about to have a meeting. So I grabbed a quick shot, and made my exit. Despite that, they seemed a nice bunch, so I will definitely return there - and book ahead!

Glad you like that shot - my favourite of them all.

Wow....those are amazing :D
