This was taken a while ago, but it was my first studio shoot. Set up by myself using a white background, and one main light (without any help because college are rubbish at that sort of thing) and apart from what Dad has taught me about studio set-ups.

Well done Emma. Sometimes the only and best way is to do it your way by yourself. A little more visibility on her hair (dark side) would improve alright.
I would not know where to start in a studio, totally clueless.
You say you used a white background but what I see is totally black. I need help here.

Thank you. Urm I'm not really sure how I managed the complete black background, I positioned the light from the right side of her so the light is only aimed and quite close to the face. Never been able to achieve it again!

With the light source directed away from the background you will get a low key effect, because you are exposing for the light on the subject, if the light source had been directed at the background and behind the subject the white would show, and if the light source had been in front of the subject then you would have got a grey background, its quite simple to achieve, even with one light. But easier to do than explain

Thanks Kev.
