I shot this as a 5-shot bracket at 1 stop intervals. Processed in Photomatix for the HDR look - just a bit overcooked. Then I processed the best single exposure in Photoshop and brought out the detail where I wanted it from the HDR version using layer masking using a soft brush set to 25%.

What a striking scene and I love the processing. I'm not a fan of HDR, but you have used it well here. The sky looks natural and the Photomatix effect has been sparingly applied to the foreground. You actually make me want to try this out for myself

For me this is what HDR processing is for! Controlling the dynamic range of a photograph - not creating cartoons

Nice and subtle Dave and it only really shows a bit in the trees. The foreground just looks like some fill-light was added. I like the composition works very well I think and the processing complements the image as a whole IMO.

I like the composition and the light is magnificent. But to me, the HDR effect is still a bit too strong.
