Here's something to keep an eye out for...a small startup in New Zealand have developed a device for setting up and controlling motion control time lapse photos.

(Take a look at the video...)

The 'Genie' sits on a tripod, you attach your camera and the control cable. Select your settings and it will fire the camera at the correct intervals and can pan or move laterally along a track to add motion to your time lapse photos.

I originally came across this at the 'kickstarter' web site. This is a place where people can show off their ideas, and the public can subscribe or donate to help them get the funding to move to the next stage, whether thats production or the next stage in development. This lot have got their funding and more and from some of the comments they have retailers interested in the product.

Looks like the price is going to be $999, so not cheap...

that looks like a neat bit of kit.....out of my price range though:(

Interesting!

At that price I'd expect a chinese knockoff to undercut them, if it takes off.

I noticed the Chinese moved into the timed controller market for Canon cameras and just trashed the price compared to the original Canon unit.

Might be good for punters though - more affordable stuff!

At the moment most of the cheaper motion controllers fail on the smoothness of the motion. Not such a problem with time-lapse but a big problem with video. The cheaper ones also don't do gradients well either. With this price they are pretty well low end already.

Aggree with you Pete, good product & if it works very cheap to, trouble with the Chinese stuff is it is cheap & usally crap long term, & one reason why countries are in so much trouble as they just copy everything & kill the market for original manufacturers.I would not buy some of the copy stuff myself as long term it is a waste of money, hope they do well with this product.

Should also mention our proof that the copy stuff is rubbish we sell Bowens lighting for instance & the Chinese flash is a less than 1/2 it's price, but we have had to send every one back for credit as they fail within 2 weeks of use, 1 was even LIVE on the casing so not good at all & most are not CE approved, it is just a copy sticker on them, we have seen that to.So our customers bite the bullet go to Bowens or Elinchrom & then see why they are a bit pricier !
