No Brian, I admit that against the duff the actual color were somewhat muted so I bumped up the saturation on the snake and killed the saturation on the surrounding duff to allow the snake to stand out. My wife was sure it was poisonous and kept calling: Gary!! Get away from that!

I believe that it's actually a bull snake.

Always a joy to see a snake photographed doing it's thing Gary. I suspect you're correct with the ID, that black mono brow is pretty distinct on them.

Thanks Wes but it wasn't my ID - I just fed my image into Google Lens and the results seemed to agree - so I went with it.

I'm actually amazed it got the ID correct! I'm envious you get to enjoy wild reptiles such as bull snakes, the two species we have in the UK are very rare to see in the North.
