I was using Google to find the focal length of the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash model. I did not find the information I was looking for, at least not from a definitive source. However, I did find RPF (and inside it a nice photo blog about the Hawkeye).

I have a Canon 7D. I seldom use it, though, which is a great shame because it is a fine machine. I prefer to shoot film cameras. I have 8 or 9 Polaroid Automatic Land Cameras as well as a Polaroid SX-70 and a Spectra. I shoot often with a Canon F1, and very often with an Olympus XA. I have several Yashica Electro 35s, a Mamiya-Sekor 500 DTL (that I got new when I was a kid), a Kiev 4A, a FED 3 and a FED 5, a Zenit 12XP, 3 Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash cameras, a Voigtlander Bessa, a couple of Holgas, a Diana and a couple of Diana knock-offs, and other cameras. I think I have about 70 film cameras, most of them working.

I recently starting home processing of black and white. I plan to do C41 next.

Wish I could retire and just do photography stuff all day long!

Anyway, since I discovered RPF yesterday I have enjoyed reading the posts and articles and I am sure I will continue to enjoy it.

Welcome Brian!

You're just up the coast from me - we're almost neighbors :)

Glad you found us - the Hawkeye write-up was fun to do, and it looks like you share vintage camera addiction with many of the forum members.

Very friendly group here, lots of varied interests, but a common love of photography - i.e. we'd love to see some pictures! :)

Regarding focal length for the Hawkeye - all I could find was the following:

Focal length; Probably 75mm, but could be 85mm, depending on which measurement is correct, see "Aperture" above. The camera "sees" about the same horizontal view as a 35mm camera "sees" with a 50mm lens.

Hi Chris,...thanks for the message and the welcome. I saw that KurtMunger site also and in fact his and one other seemed the most credible when it came to specs such as focal length, shutter speed and aperture on the Hawkeye. However, as I think you know as well as I, it's tough to find something definitive.

By the way,...the reason I was looking for the information is because I am preparing an article for the Film Photography Project site. The article is submitted but not yet posted. Would it be appropriate for me to link to it here in RPF once it's posted?

By the way, where are you,...San Diego maybe?

Thank you,

brian

Brian - a link would be very well received - maybe even do a short intro and we can publish it here with the link to the main piece.

I'm in Carlsbad - so just North of San Diego.

Hi Brian!

Welcome to the forum! I'm really please people are finding our little articles on these old cameras, it seems to be bringing people with a great interest in classic gear, which is never a bad thing!
70 cameras eh, I thought I had a lot!
If you ever feel like writing little articles on any of your collection I'd be very interested to read them and add them to our collection!

And yes links to else where with little intros are more than welcome to... We are more than happy to help anyone in any way who likes to write about cameras, photography etc
