Hello everyone ... and a little introduction about myself,

I like taking photos as a hobby. To me, it's more about capturing what I see/feel and recording places/activities very much like a diary as I go places ... and very much less about equipment.

I like travel, nature and street photography; there are also subjects that I am particularly drawn towards, for example, water reflection.

I have been using DSLR for the past 4-5 years, and only recently that I have started doing more post-processing using Lightroom. As for joining RPF, after Jim (Kuo)'s recommendation, I would like to seek constructive feedbacks and advices from this community so that I can continue to improve my photo-taking.

Hi Priya and welcome. What a nice introduction and super set of pictures - I love the reflections shot especially. I'm sure you've heard quite a bit about this place from Jim so I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing more images.

Welcome Priya, I'd echo Petes comment really!
The first picture is indeed really interesting, my first thought was that the colour is a little cool, but that fades when you see the effect of that coolness on the rest of the colour

The detail in #2 is really good and its a nice composition. Did you arrange the leaves on the tree trunk (I assume that's what it is) this way, or did you encounter it like that? The reflection in the water is really nice too. The fireworks has a very handheld feel about it. Is it hand held? (I've never shot fireworks, but from what I gather timed exposures work best.) All three are very nice images.

Welcome, I really like No 1, very Monet. No 2 reminds me of a relatively famous photographers work but I cant remember his name. If I find it I'll post it, might be interesting to you.

Brian, #2 the leaves were already there when I found it. I don't do much of arranging the objects myself and I think nature generally does a better job than me

And #3 was hand-held .... with a little bit of support from the tripod though I didn't have enough time to lock the camera in place since I was standing relatively close to the firework actions. I like the way the light dispersed through the smoke ... almost like gazing the stars and universe.

Hi Priya - glad you joined us.

Lovely shots - really like #2 a lot - the texture in the tree is wonderful in B&W.

I think it would even work as a square crop, with the top half of the image - there's such a nice flow to that top section, almost like water in a stream.

I see what you mean about the smoke in #3 - it's like a Hubble Telescope image, looking into a nebular in deep space

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes, Priya is my partner in photography as well as the partner in life. One major advantage of this is that she doesn't nag me for buying camera gears (as long as the requirement is valid and I don't over do it) .

I am (used to be) a more of a technical gear head, in contrast, she is the creative/artistic type. I really like the pictures she's taken over the years and it's great that she can get to show them to a photography appreciative crowd like RPF.

We usually go on photo trips together, visiting almost identical locations, at the same schedules...etc. But I notice that the pictures we've taken are always quite different, in composition, exposure, and post processing, due to our personal preferences. It's really interesting to see how different an identical subject can look from slightly different perspectives .

I am also looking forward to seeing Priya's pictures on RPF.

Welcome to the forum Priya, I love numbers 1 & 2 ... number 1 for the subtlety, its very calming. Number 2 for the opposite, it's vibrant and the contrast is great

Jim / Priya - my wife and I have the same experience with photography.

We'll be at the same location at the same time, and come away with a completely different photographic take.

I'm busy trying to capture the whole building with an ultra-wide, and my wife is busy photographic one window or one door!

It's great to look at the different approaches, and we learn something from each other.
