How in the world is that pronounced, and where is the world is it native to?

i think dubh means black in gaelic. or at least caife dubh meant black coffee in ireland... or maybe dubh was referring to something alcoholic, which was in the coffee... what a wonderful way to start the morning.

i like your lighting on this. a couple of small nitpicks - straighten the area on the right where the white meets the black, and there's a large spot on the left side of the background that isn't black. but the lighting rocks.

The "floor" is actually just a shiny white folder from Canon, for the CPS membership. haha. I will see what I can do to straighten that. I think the left side background is orangeish (correct?) because of bounce/spill from the reflector and firing into it. Again, I will see what I can do for it. This was one of those "I wonder what it really takes" kind of shots. I only had 2 lights, 1 reflector, and the folder.

I don't speak Gaelic, but I'm pretty sure the word "dubh," which means black, is pronounced "doo."

I'm also pretty sure that stuff is from Scotland. Nice picture, Grant.

Thanks guys. I spent about 2 hours on the lighting and I know it still needs work. I don't have any room to work with to speak of. I wish I could get away without the softbox highlights on the right side, I may try that at some point tomorrow.

Worked out well Grant.. I think Beth's observations are spot-on but, as you say, easily sorted out. Nice shot and it looks suitably classy.

Reflective surfaces are always a nightmare - you did a very nice job Grant.

Black shiny object on a black backdrop - now's there's a challenge!

Have used the light tent to great success for stuff like this - even has interchangeable backdrops for black, white, red etc.
