Hello Hamish, I would consider myself a reportage photographer, I'll post some pics tomorrow as I'll have a little more time. I found this site on the Elemental facebook site.

Just bought a set of Elemental Genesis Mk2, really like them - Good build quality, and the stands are great. I only use a small studio at home, so I don't want a huge amount of Joules.
My only major concern with this company is the amount of out of stock items on the website.
I have managed to source a set of barn doors and some grids that fit just fine though. The 140cm Octobox is superb although a little heavy for the lock mech on the light.

I can let them off a few minor niggles for the excellent service!
I am having some issues getting a matching set of 16 channel triggers from them ...
I want to use 1 sender and 3 receivers ... But they can't seem to send ones that all work together ... To be fair to them though there is no way they would no what I had ... And they are being very accomodating and understanding!
Nice bunch of people too, although for some reason I always feel like that Jess is less than pleased to hear from me ... I tend to ring them to ask stupid questions! :)

That's not great on the octobox weight issue ... Have you talked to them about it?

I haven't called them with the Octobox issue, I have made a small adjustment to the locking mech on the light and have fitted a longer bolt with a couple of locking knurl nuts off an old Lastolite reflector mounting arm. So it ok as long as I just mount the softbox to that one strobe.
What problem were you having with your triggering? Although my light set came with a standard 'Elemental' trigger, I don't use it. I use Pocket Wizard Plus II's for my triggering, they really do as they say on the can.

Different batches of triggers not talking to each other basically ...
They are pretty cheap looking things, but when they talk to each other they seem to do the job as well as is required ...

What's the advantage of the Pocket Wizard gear then?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I believe that Elemental have there equipment manufactured to their own spec in China. The problems in Japan has caused all sorts of logistical issues from the east. Possible they are suffering at the hands of that.

Hamish, its it not going well with the triggers give me a call. I found out recently that the trigger for my studio lights are a variation of the ones for my flashguns and run on the same frequencies. I should be able to help you source elsewhere if need be.

Cheers Paul, they will sort it though, I'm going o send the lot back and the chap Chris is gonna set me up with a matching set ... If I ring them tomo morning I'll probably have it sorted by the Thursday morning!

I'm intrigued to learn more about the pocket wizard kit though now...
Not that I can afford it ... My list of stuff I want is getting very kong at the mo ... Gawd damn expensive job this!

They main thing with them is their range - 1600ft. Great if Im shooting a football match. I can set a camera up on a tripod, pre focus the lens on the goal line and trip the shutter from the other end of the pitch.
And the other thing is they always fire, (I've never had one not fire - ever).
They are also compatible with all other pocket wizard triggers. Only bad thing it their price - over £300 a pair. Oouch!

Thatdd buy me the sb900 I'm hankering after at the mo ...
I'm not sure I have any need for 1600ft triggering ... Although consistancy would be nice!

So what kit do you use then?

Mostly Canon - One 450D (My first DSLR), Two 5D MkII's (My favourites), a 1D (Very good camera, but the 5D's are better),
4 x 580 exII Speedlites, 24 -105L f4, 50L f1.2, 24-70L f2.8, 70-200L f2.8, 100L f2.8 and a 400L f4.
Also got a very dusty Bronica 645 with an 80mm f2.0
Manfrotto Triaut B058 Tripod with 322RC2 Ball Head, Velbron Tripod, Velbron Monopod, Pocket Wizards PlusII x 4 off, and a stack of light modifiers, filters and a 2 Big Lowepro Bags Pro Roller 300x and an Orion AW, and a lighting bag to cart it all around in.
3 Head, Elemental Genesis MkII's 250W

If you want use ETTL with Canon Speedlites you'd have to use the Flex1 or Mini T5's, the Plus ii's are good old manual flash only. Which is fine as it's all I use anyway.

I'm gonna have a gear clear out soon ... Decided today ... Gonna flog loads of the random bits and get me some nice new glass!
