Hello

2nd attempt at posting this - so if 2 threads turn up - ooops :)

Signed up ages ago then life got in the way so didn't post, so thought it was about time I said hello!

Had an interest in photography for years but never really go in to it properly as is were. Then a while back my other half rescued a Lubitel 166 from the skip and gave it to me - which has now led me here :)

My point and shoot digital camera died last week so now I'm down to my 166 and a Diana F - so its 120 all the way for me at the moment! I'd like to get a 35mm slr but I suspect thats another thread! I'd also like to look in to developing my own B/W films at some point

I've posted a few pics from the Lubitel 166 here: Analogue View and the obligatory Flickr acc with shots from the now deceased point and shoot: Flickr: madebyben's Photostream

Look forward to getting to know you all.

Be gentle ;)

Ben

Wonderful!

I like the Whitby shots on the Analog View site, in particular the ones on the sand. Very cool.

Welcome Ben!

Welcome Ben - you're in good company on here, plenty of film camera buffs and enthusiasts.

Looking forward to the next chapter of your photo story ;)

Welcome Ben!
Im going to visit a different Ben (another member here) next weekend (I hope), we are planning on making a video tutorial on how to process black and white film. The idea being that in the process of making the video I'm going to be teaching him how to do it ... So it should, hopefully be quite useful to a beginner!

Just the other day I loaded a roll into my previously unused by me lubitel 166b ... In fact the thing looks completely unused!
Ive had chronic photoblock recently so I'm hoping shooting some shots with it is going to help me get over that ... Time, if I can find any, will tell on that one!

Anyway, it would seem you have a very natural eye for this photography lark... Some very interesting shots! I really like the Analog (what's with the american spelling ;)) Veiw site! The double exposure of the end of the pier is realy a work of genius IMO!

Yer a plonker!

Thanks for the welcome and feedback everyone! :) And thank you very much for the kind words about photos.

Why the American spelling? Because I can't spell basically :) All corrected now - Analogue View Had to change it once you'd pointed it out or it would just annoy me! I've changed the links so it will work now Lesley.

I do like the quality and the serendipity of the 166 - though to be honest I love Whitby and you can take a pic of just about anything around there and it will look great :) Really glad the double exposure of the end of the pier came out - I actually meant to do that as well! Unlike some other shots where I simply forgot to wind the film on! Glad you like it Hamish. I also really like the image right at the bottom of the page of the beach when the image just sort of fades out as the film ends. The reason I embraced 120 and plastic cameras was that I knew I couldn't afford a decent dslr so my images would be limited by the aging digi point and shoot I had. With the 120 cameras I have its about making the most of the flaws - they add personality to the image :)

I need to find a different scanner as mine isn't set up for 120 and it won't scan the whole neg, hence the portrait shape of most of them.

Though I now really want a 35mm slr to learn the technical side of things.

Look forward to getting involved more :)

Thank you for fixing the link! I did find a way to scan 120 film, but I couldn't afford the extra software just for a couple of rolls so I got watermarks all over the images. Of course, the biggest problem is getting into the shadows and making a decent scan, which our old flatbed couldn't do. I looked into it a couple of years ago, but I seem to remember the only good scanner was very expensive. They are all experts in here, so no doubt someone will be along soon to tell you how to make something that will work.

I've only been to Whitby once, but I loved it! :)

Hi Ben, I too look forward to seeing more of your work. Welcome.

I use VueScan - it was the only way I could get my scanner to work with my mac as the epson drivers wouldn't work - it was cheaper than buying a new scanner! Though the scanning area isn't wide enough for 120.

Welcome, Ben. More steam train shots, please!

Sorry - thats all I've got! I'll try and get some more next time I'm there :)
