Hello everyone! I just heard about this forum from someone on DPREVIEW. That place is a bit hostile sometimes so I am hoping this forum will be more gentle! :)

I have a Canon 5D mk II and Canon 7D with a 16-35cf/2.8 version II, 24-105 f/4, 70-200 IS version II and a 300 f/2.8 L IS version I. I have been an avid photo hobbyist since I was 13 years old, 30 years ago. I am not particularly talented, but I have a lot of fun escaping a busy occupation as a pilot.

I look forward to learning from you and sharing any knowledge I have, which is not a whole lot! :)

Happy New Year to everyone!

Hi Chris - welcome to the light side of photography forums :)

Couldn't be more different than DPR - lovely crowd here, into their photography and super helpful.

Great choice of kit you have there - what do you use the 300 for?

You able to take any shots while at work? That would be interesting!

Looking forward to seeing some images, and getting your take on what we do here.

Happy New Year, and new photog forum :D

Welcome Chris, I've never been on the other side DPreview other than to have a look around, here we like to think of it as 'The Friendly One' where we share opinions, positive critique, help and advice and where we all learn from each other.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here. Looking forward to seeing what you get upto :)

Welcome to the mas hoose Chris. :D :D

you will definitely find it a friendly place and we can be a helpful bunch at times too :D

Welcome Chris, we are about the polar opposite of DPR
In fact I think I'd go as far to say that we pride ourselves on that very fact!
We certainly seem to have a few DPR rufugees here :)

Happy new year!

Photography is like using my left hand to brush my teeth. It works, but I have to think about it!

Brilliant!

some great shots in there!
get some on the forum if you like, looks like your better than your letting on, some of those landscapes are really nice!
What with the steam on the one of a river??

welcome Chris you will find RPF a very friendly and helpful place to hang out, i am sure you will enjoy your stay, we are all here show our images and to learn from others.

Greetings from Foggy Southern California, Chris. And welcome. Airline pilot + Dallas = (usually) AA. (Confirmed by a glance at your smugmug fotie in uniform.) Through Keith Wolzinger (a friend of mine who flies for AA out of LA) I know Craig Railsback who flies out of Dallas for AA. (I believe.) Craig is a very fine photographer. Do you know him?
