Hello to everyone. I dabble in Photography. It gets me out and about.I have in my time been very involved with the visual image in areas other than photography. What engages me greatly in photography as a medium is its ability to record historically. I love the images from my village of birth which is a fishing village. The fishermen in the early 20th century working on the quay side mending nets. The fishing boats they went to sea in and the vehicles that took the catch to the local market places. Almost any image that tells us something about ourselves past or present has value. These kinds of images give me a lot of information with clarity. Having said this a very small amount of my own photography is historical. I do think that what often we call mundane today, does in time often have a value that can be given to others over time, if only to show how things were. The county of Cornwall where I live is a very beautiful place to live and be able to take photographs.

I like your thoughts on the historical values of photography, Julian. Welcome to RPF. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Welcome Julian - you'll find you're in good company here with folks shooting the current 'history' they see all around them

You do indeed live in a beautiful part of the world - looking forward to seeing some of your work :)

I never liked history back in my school years...
However now, I absolutely love it now. It plays a great part in photography, and in your case a very sentimental one too.
Welcome to the forum, a great place to be.
Looking forward to seeing some photos :)

Photography has that ability to capture a moment in time and presrve it so others may appreciate it. Looking forward to some pictures from a really beautifil part of the world.
