House on the Hill (something a bit more "me")

Cheers Pete! Yes, it's on my books to buy list!
I'm quite pleased with these in the end ... Worked out a nice trick for my self too
I exported them as tiffs, used Rudi's luminance layer smart sharpening trick in Photoshop them import them back in to lightroom and add the grain post sharpen ... I found sharpening post grain very districting to image quality! Fairly logical really but it only occured to me whilst doing these photos!

Pre-grain you mean? I do a sharpen at the raw stage for images off the D3 but not for the M9 or P backs (as they don't have anti-aliasing filters) and then only sharpen again for the output medium (usually using the Nik sharpen module), varying it for screen or printer (and print size). Unless it is part of the PP stategy (eg Urban Preset).

Yes, sorry ...
... When I have added grain then sharpened, I don't like the effect the sharpening process has on the grain ...

The d3 definitely requires sharpening, a fact I have only realised from reading stuff here and experimenting!
I now can't quite believe that I was comfortable with unsharpened images from the d3...

Unless of course, as you alluded to, the softness is part of the desired end product!

Did you say hi to Number 6 while you were in Portmeiron? I've always wanted to go there, as well.

Anyway, very nice job on the photos! Very much up my alley, those... Love the mood.

Did you see my shots from Portmeirion matey?
I have found my self being very anal about vertical lines since I have seen your photos you know!

I'm really chuffed with these, it's quite pleasing other people seem to like them too! :)

Glad to see it's rubbing off! I haven't seen them yet (been out of town on a business trip and just got home). But I'll take a look!
