Hover fly

Spent a bit of time capturing this one, it was very obliging & kept coming back to the same flower. I was using an 18-55 lens with a +10 macro filter & aa SB80DX flash held above the subject.

Oh wow! They are all simply stunning, but I think the last one is the best. We've been watching wasps going behind the kick boards in our field shelter and some have also made a hole in the lawn. I don't have a macro lens, but I could watch them for hours

i recently saw so flying bug photos and thought how impressive they were!

Do you use Lightroom Richard?
You could try dropping the blue channel to reduce the aberrations from te 10x filter?

Thanks! I don't have a proper macro lens either...this is using cheap macro filters...the screw on the end of your lens type thing. They are inexpensive & as you can see, you can get reasonably good results. I was very pleased with these...One day I'll get a real macro lens!

I don't have Lightroom, I am currently getting to grips with PS Elements; do you know if I could do the same in that program?

Always shoot RAW...I'll have an explore...Thanks for the advise

check ps elements for a hue/sat option, then desaturate the cyan or blue colors. in regular photoshop the colors are in a drop down box underneath of the master option.

amazing photos, even more when you say you don't have a macro lens. i like #3, it looks like an alien walking across the flower on it's hind legs.
