It's crazy, really crazy.
Not far from where I live is a town called Grimsby, this was once a busy fishing port for the North Sea.

When I first started working, ( a long time ago
) I worked for a security company and one of my jobs was to maintain and repair the CCTV cameras and alarms on the Docks.
It was a fairly busy place and I liked it even though it was smelly.
The docks are like a ghost town now.

Although lots of the fish in the UK is traded at Grimsby fish market most of it is bought in from Iceland, as the North sea near England does not have enough fish any more.

This is what they are saying mark, it's not ao much the lack of fish in the north sea, but the ammount the fisherman have to discard due to eu policy...
There is an understanding that the fish populations need to be looked after but this isn't helped by eu policy that forces fisherman to try to catch different sorts of fish that often cause lots of fish to be caught that they can't bring to shore ... Because they can bring it to shore they have to throw it over board ...
There is two sides to the story of course, but the issue is that current policy isn't working and it's taking a long time to come up with an alternative... In the meanwhile, lots of fish is going to waste and fisherman are having to work twice as hard for half the reward ...
At least that's how I understand it ...
As I said, as we anything like this, it seems to be very complicated, but as far as I can tell the petetion is to get something done ... As whatever they do I should be better than what is happening now!
