In search of fall color

Up at 7000ft today - near Flagstaff AZ - in search of any tree that's going even slightly yellow/orange...

Nope - all green here!

The road in #2 is AZ Highway 89A - and you can see three levels as it snakes up the canyon towards the summit.

I'll have to go further afield by the looks as things ;)

I think you'll have to seek country with deciduous trees, Chris. Pines only change color when the forest catches fire. I like that first shot a lot. The rocks are almost aglow in that light!

Brian - good point - I didn't include many deciduous trees in these two shots - but there were plenty down in the valley by the creek - Oak, Sycamore, Cottonwood etc - all nice and green! :(

I was going to say that you may be waiting a long time if you're looking for fall color in pine trees, but Brian beat me to it.

I'm going to find an orange deciduous tree if it kills me! ;)

It's a bit early for fall colors in Arizona. Late November and December are much better.

The red-rock part of the state has wonderful orange colors all year. It's amazing the colors you see at sunset and sun rise.

When it come to rocks the Chiricahua National Monument is a best kept secrete and can almost rival the Grand Canyon. The huge fire of last summer burned off part of the park lands so there are some red and black trees there. If you haven't been there here is a photo blog I did of it last spring:

Enjoy fall and your time in Arizona!

I love the balanced rocks ... such odd things!

(if you go into your wordpress settings you can change that "just another wordpress.com site" to say something a little nicer :))
