Latest budget lens

I didn't want to continue and go off the the subject about this lens on Davie's sunset thread, so I've started a new one

I picked up this lens for £7, now that's budget!! However, it's pretty dam good for what it is and the optics are mint, no scratches, fungus, haze etc.
I haven't seen a lens like this one especially with a f stop of 2.5. But then I also haven't seen a lens with a ... Well.. Frame on the back, I'm assuming it maybe something to do with controlling the light to not create chromatic abberation? Wild guess of mine. I'm sure someone knows.

Its a Soligor 35-70m f/2.5-3.5, closest focus is about 15cm, it has a built in hood, about as good as it gets really. all these photos are taken on the iPhone

The square aperture at the back is quite common on older lenses and is to help reduce reflections from the film and the mirror chamber onto the rear elements.

Yeah, I'm just getting the hang of macro, never done it before. Lol. I will find something interesting to snap with it.
