Yeah mine too, but I took so many I felt I needed to include a couple more ... I'm no good at animal photos ... They move to much and you can't tell them not to...

Does the light look natural? ... I have stared at it far to much to have an objective view of it...
I have actually processed in the light on the left and dark on the right as the original only just caught the sunlight, the background was in the shade for the most part...

Lighting looks OK to me Hamish. I too like No 1 the best although I do like the 'in the jungle' look of number 2.

see what i mean ... i still cant work out if it looks right ... i does by its self but then looks wrong when you look at the "as shot" equiv... what do you think?

I see what you mean but still think the processed version is the best. How about reducing the effect in the top RH corner. It would not really be obvious that it has been tinkered with.

I re-lightened the top right hand corner a bit ...

Sorry Hamish. I couldn't see the new image at first (dodgy Greek internet connection!). I think I'd probably bring the RH top back to even close to the original so the darkening only affects the chicken.

If I were in a chicken house I'd expect sun beams coming in through gaps in the siding. That should create varying light areas like in your first photo. So I thought it looked pretty natural.
