Leica completely loose the plot

That's the only way to describe the new Leica X2 (Paul Smith Edition)

What were they thinking?

Leica Camera AG - Photography - Leica X2 Edition Paul Smith

What the red dot is to Leica, above all bright stripes are to Paul Smith designs and the most wonderful proof that they can live in perfect harmony is embodied in every single one of the 1,500 cameras of the strictly limited Leica X2 Edition Paul Smith.

As ever, when the English designer wants to give a classic that special twist, the aim of the stylish makeover of the Leica X2 was the creation of sheer joy. This exclusive special edition combines British style with German design, German and British traditions - the red dot and bright, colourful stripes. Both of them iconic trademarks.

And it is these immensely popular stripes that are now recreated in the design of this special edition of the Leica X2: in the bright orange on the top plate, the legendary British racing green of the leather trim and the fluorescent yellow of its base.

As well as the courageous and refreshingly bright combination of colours, another Paul Smith highlight is the stylised light bulb engraved on the cover of the pop-up flash.

Rush to your nearest approved Leica stockist to place your order - before they realize what they've done, and destroy them all!

Now I'm not adverse to being different and playing with ideas that can get the imagination going and I don't always want traditional designs but.........................to me it looks like a school art exam project that got a 'F' grade............I guess when you become famous you can be as pretentious as you like and incorporate year 1 school drawings into your designs and get away with it simply because it's a limited issue.............Really glad I can't afford one as I don't have a jacket that would go with it :D:D

When Paul Smith pulled out the cleaning cloth I smiled as initially it looked like the x100 printed on the cloth. First thoughts were, are they were making a statement. Needed to replay to see of course it was not the x100. But was that the intention:)

I am waiting for the new "M" in the 450th Anniversary Bratwurst Commemorative Edition. I understand that the usual leather covering will be replaced with sausage casings complete with the perfume of smoked pork. At $26,000Cdn. it should sell quite well.

You'll be needing some HP Sauce to go with that sausage Larry! :D

as a marketing idea it's a good one, Sir Paul Smith has a worldwide name and with his 60's connections has a following among the hipsters and obviously that's who this abomination is aimed at.... they will fly off the shelves

HP. Now owned by US company who closed the UK plant after saying they wouldn't and moved production to The Netherlands!

These special editions do seem very odd but are a long-standing tradition for Leica and are aimed at collectors. I guess the extra revenue they bring is useful to a small company and if it helps keep them going and producing the quality of products that they do then I have no complaints.
