now this was taken with sigma 10-20 as that the only way i could get all this mahoosive building in 1 photo. the edges where at some serious strangle angles

I used photoshop to adjust verticals which i havent done before........would love to know your thoughts. Does it look ok strange or what :p:p

Cheers in advance for your input

Love the colors and the overall image, Daz. However, since you asked, it seems to me the area of the cathedral to the left front is leaning left and narrows top-to-bottom, whereas the rear portion of the cathedral is leaning right. Or,...could be I just haven't had enough coffee yet.

Great shot Darren! nice vibrant clolours!
And I don't know why you don't use that lens more often!
That sigma would be on my Oly PERMANENTLY! :D:D

back to the shot, I tried to do this with the sugar silo towers that I visited, and PP'd it in PS elements (straightening verticals) and the perspective of it was completely out, and just didn't look real, although the verticals were straight as a dye. I think the sheer height of the towers meant that I'd of needed to have been level at the half way point of height of the silos (or taken the shot alot further back zoomed in), in order for it to look more realistic if I'm straightening verticals. Does that make sense?? lol
And I've got to say Darren, I think that may be the case here. It doesnt seem to give the correct perspective of the cathedaral. (not like I've seen it before) lol
Do you still have the original? Could we see it?? :)

Daz, nice shot but I think the verts are a little out and make it all look odd, how did you do it in PS?

Colours are great, post the original for comparison...:)

ok here is same shot , without my attempt an straightening the verticals

editing is slightly different also

Daz

I think this is a difficult one to correct fully, just had a go to get the same crop as yours. It's difficult to judge on here really..

Hhhmmm, yeah, I can see why you'd want to strighten it.........
Hope you don't mind me intruding on your thread Darren....:p

But here's the example I was on about....... Just couldn't do nothing with it.

i think PT Lens would be able to do it, Hamish put me onto it when I posted that pink house shot

I love the original one--no adjustments.

As an aside, I heard once (or perhaps mis-heard) that the ancient Greeks, when building the Parthenon or maybe it was some other structure, actually designed-in a tiny tiny amount of curvature to each column in order to enhance the illusion of straightness. In other words, each column was a millimeter or to wider in the middle than at either end, and this made it look better--more uniformly straight--along its length. Has anybody else heard of that, or is it some nonsense I have picked up somewhere?

i used perspective correction tool, yes i see your point DD it not easy and i think in mine and your case the original still looks best.........!!

are they called tilt shift lens that CAN get around this issue ?? very £££££££ though

Daz

Oh yes!! They're mega bucks......

I'm voting for the original on both too :)

will do cheers for advice Pete :)

This is my version which I suspect keeps the building a bit more in proportion....at least on my screen...

Done in PS7 using perspective tool....

Loving the original un-tweaked one so far
