low tide

tried out some new processing. i think it might be oversharpened, but at 430 am i'm not too sure if it's the image or my eyes. will take a better look at it tomorrow/today after sleeping.

another shot from the long way home. had the promise of clouds when i left work last thursday morning so i thought some landscapes would be nice. got out to rt 9 and there's no clouds. except for what was coming out of the nuclear power plant reactors in jersey.

edit - replaced photo with newest version. the other two shots were deleted.

It's a lovely, gentle image. My eyes are bad at the best of times and I can sympathise trying to sharpen when you're tired. Grass is funny anyway, but this doesn't look particularly overdone here. I love that shell in the foreground!

i fixed my m mount adapter this morning, so i may go try this shot again with the 12mm. 18mm seems cramped to me.

still can't decide on the sharpening, but i think it might be the light and shadows on the fine grass playing tricks on my eyes. the grass in the background seems to be really warm compared to the grass in the foreground. and the big shadow is bugging me too.

earlier this morning (three days after the previous shot) still no clouds and a slightly higher low tide. and shot with the 12mm voigtlander using the m mount adapter which needs fixed yet again.

So what was up with the M-Mount adapter?

You really have me thinking about that 12mm Lens - then I think I'l wait for the 14mm from Fuji - then I think how wiiiiide the 12mm is....

What to do?

The only other thing I'd say regarding the 2nd image vs the first is that the 2nd looks like it could benefit from a touch more contrast?

Which may be a feature of the lens?

i left work later today due to some not entirely unforseen issues at work (rednecks getting restless at the redneck festival already, 1 day down, 6 to go) and the light wasn't as intense this morning. and i was lazy so both images were processed the same. i definitely have a few things in mind i want to smooth out and will probably rework both of these and possibly a third tonight.

the m mount adapter is a cheap $25 one bought before fuji released theirs. it's got the two metal mounting rings held together with screws and a plastic cover. the screws got loose and some debris got between the two rings so they didn't feel loose. but none of the photos were in focus no matter the aperture or focus setting. debris was removed, screws tightened, focus on the 12mm is better now.

updated the top post with the last shot and deleted the other two.. wasn't happy with them today. 12mm voigtlander again. similar processing as before, but tweaked to bring out more color and contrast.

the 12mm is great, but if sigma made an x mount version of their 10-20mm i'd jump on it. loved that lens when i had a crop sensor dslr.

Buy the 12mm Chris! You won't need AF with that focal length anyway ... You will also have an excuse to get a 35mm rangefinder and take some mega wide pan f shots

I don't think it's too sharp Beth, it has a nice depth to it that comes about from a good level of sharpening (I think)

thanks hamish. i thought the original photo was too sharp, this is the updated, wider version.

and i agree, chris should get the 12mm. esp. considering what he can do with the 18mm.
