The entire processing engine has been upgraded - make sure you're set to PV2012 otherwise you won;t see a lot of the new stuff.

Having white balance on a brush is pure genius.

The new MAP module is superb too!

yes i guess the map would prove quite interesting.............. especially if you travel alot.

what is "set to PV2012"

LR 4 seems to be running pretty fast, very little lag really just the same as LR 3 on my system.

Darren you have to upgrade your catalogs as well as your images to lightroom 4 (I forgot the actual term used in lightroom) if you are working on images processed on previous versions of LR you will only see the old controls, if this is the case there will be some sort of message or alert at the bottom right corner of the image, click it and you will be able to upgrade it to the new platform...

The math behind all the develop module adjustments has been rewritten from scratch so all your highlights, shadows, clarity etc are a whole different beast now with LR4. The first improvement I noticed when I used LR4 for the first time is the clarity slider, you no longer get glowing around the edges when you bump up the clarity, instead it's a very clean HDR like effect that it renders, of course the improvements are everywhere not just in what I'm pointing out.

My favorite new feature is the book tab and this is where I was able to create that architectural real estate ebook I had posted a week ago, so PDF creation straight from LR4

thanks very much for that info, greatly appreciated, and now i get the idea behind the new controls they are very similar to the ones in adobe raw on cs6 and like you said about the old catalogue of images, they do need to be updated by clicking that ickle icon that appears bottom right of each image.

This is going to be fun me thinks its like playing with a new program all over :-)

HAHAHA wouldn't touch them with bargepole.......there always conking out :p

I think they have become an endangered species over here. People buy them and then realise that they can't afford to feed them. They require a lot of juice and at nearly £1.50/ltr people are just abandoning them at roadsides.

Cheers Darren, My computer is an all in one so basically laptop internals attached to a large screen. I bought it as the screen is really nice and that I preferred the space saving. It has 4GB of memory, 1TB drive but a Pentium T4500 processor. i think this is the weak link as LR can get a bit sluggish at times but generally it's OK.

If anything I'm finding LR4 a bit faster than LR3 on my machine. I routinely work with a couple of hundred RAW files at a time.

Apple iMac 27" with 2.7GHz Intel Core i5, 512mb Graphics and 16Gb RAM.

are you impressed with that idea Paul, i been looking at them, screens do look awesome i must say as for lack of wires & cables & space saving seems brilliant ideas.

Only downs side i been told they are hard to upgrade, but i guess if i buy decent spec in first place i will be ok for good few years.

I find that going for an all in one was a good choice for me but part of the reason was that I had to get rid of my desk in the spare room and start using a bureau in the bedroom so Maisy could have her own room. I needed something with a large screen but still compact. Upgrading looks like it's a pain as I cant workout how to even open the casing but the PC came with a 3 year warranty so I wouldn't want to do anything until that finishes. Note that I have a Medion PC, not an iMac.

right gotya i wouldn't want a iMac, i would want windows version.............mmmmmmmmmm soooooooo tempting lol

Darren, One thing I did do yesterday was to was to put a half decent usb flash stick into the computer and activated Ready Boost. It sped things up a noticeable amount, the gain isn't massive but worth a few quid for the coast of a flash stick. As you have a laptop you may not want a flash stick but you may have a built in card reader. I tested a few SD cards but only a Sandisk 45/mbs card was good enough and then just barely. It's all to do with the way the data is written to the card and seek times etc. Wikipedia have a good article on it.

Just a thought really as we were talking about computers and performance with LR etc.

o yes i used to do that with my old toshiba laptop Paul, works a treat doesnt it :-) makes a big difference.

dont really need it on this newer laptop though.
