Looks like the pattern on the step-down portion is worn through handling. I'm guessing countless thumbs have rested there. Handle end of an old decorative spoon with middle-eastern or Anatolian scrollwork?

Whatever it is you have captured a very lovely image of it Nihat.

Beth takes the Gold! Brian has the Silver for proximity, and Glenn gets the Bronze for his humor. Pete gets the Merit award. Thank you for all the inputs, friends. :)

I wanted to present a different kind of image, differently.

Hamish had a good question for which the answer is no. This is or used to be a way of life in Turkey (though, it may be popular in the middle-east.)

You'd see a shoe-shiner on busy corners of the town. That would be his business location (never seen a woman doing this kind of work.) They put pride in their work. Some put on a real fancy show, especially in the double brushing process. With such energy and action, you know your feet are being messaged with your shoes on. After your shoes are cleaned, almond oiled, painted, waxed and polished, you'd think you have a couple of Ferraris on your feet.

In the winter of 2007, on my return from Mt Ağrı (Ararat) area, I gave my hiking boots to a shoe-shiner in one of Istanbul's fancy hotels. The guy said that he'd need 1/2 hour to work on it. Gave me a couple of fancy slippers and disappeared. After coming down from the snowy hills of eastern Anatolia with a feeling like you are some kind of a all-terrain capable guy, waiting in a posh hotel's lobby area in Istanbul with your fancy slippers on, does not really make you feel comfortable. Anyway, the boots came back so new and flashy. it was unreal..

Rob, thank you my friend. :) Sorry for the delay on this. [doh] I think the o-ring which somehow sticked on to my ear drum from the hearing aid is really bugging me. I focus on a subject with more effort and end up missing like this. Balance is problem, etc. Hopefully, the doctor will take care of the problem tomorrow.
