Merlin's Well

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
I nearly didn't bother with this location as I had to drive all the way from Cornwall to the Kent/Sussex border. It was very foggy and pouring with rain. My husband said I could try again next year, but I don't think I can do this trip again. So I made the diversion to Tintagel.

It was over a mile to walk up a wooded valley - very muddy and lots of steep bits to climb. I finally made it to this spectacular waterfall, where I stood in the gloom and the rain until it got even worse. When I got back to the car, I had to stand outside and towel myself dry as best as I could before setting off for home. The journey was appalling and I didn't get back until nearly bed time.

This is my final image from Cornwall...

that's dedication Lesley!

I love the pooling of the white water at the base of the fall, and also the pop of colour from the leaf in the foreground

Ooooh that's a cracker!

This spot has been on my list for some time but not managed it. Alas on our trip to Tintagel a few years back we didn't have time to get to it :(

It's not that difficult @Julian de'Courcy . You park the car and there's a way to walk along a drive between some houses. Then a slope down to the woods. Every difficult incline in the woods had steps of stone and a handrail. I have a fixed left ankle (with occasional dodgy knees) and I managed. I'm very short too, so the steps were more of a challenge - someone of normal height wouldn't find them as bad. When you get to the waterfall it's level with the ground and you just wander into the water as far as you need :)

Beautiful image Lesley... that waterfall looks almost like a shaft of light piercing through the rocks before dispersing into the water.
