monitor and printer calibration

I just changed my color profile on my macbook to ProPhoto RGB ... does anyone know anything about this for print output ?

the aim is to get my new printer to print what I see on my screen, I know there is software for this .... any recomendations ?

I got stuck on this a while ago and Joan West helped my out but I haven't seen her post on here for a while. I use a Pantone hueyPRO to calibrate my monitor and it works really well. The problem I have is that my printer has it's own colour profile built into it's driver and you cant use any others. There is a device that you can use to measure the colour on your monitor and your prints and it will build a profile for you. I think it is called a Colour Monkey something-or-other but don'd quote me on that.

at the moment they are coming out relatively close, I would just prefer it to be spot on :)

I also use the ProPhoto colour space and calibrate the monitor etc with a iOne Photo spectrophotmeter and have then used the test output file to create a profile for my main printer. This works well on a MacBook Pro, iMac and a MacPro. Having said that, the profile supplied was pretty close.

I use a similar hardware/software package - one of the colourvision Spyders

Costs a lot - actually works - worth it for calibrated images
