Bit of a departure for me - as I normally correct my sloping horizons - but with this one, I like it better with a lean!

X-Pro1 and 27mm Lens - shot from the hip @ f/3.6

Cardiff by the Sea - CA

Dynamic, that's the word Pete - thanks :)

You can see she's leaning her mug back the other way to level her coffee ;)

I waited until I was off the beach to get my triple venti latte

Thanks Brian - It was the palette that attracted me to take the shot - the muted sea greens of the ocean and sky, and his T shirt - and then her vivid green dress to set it off.

I didn't adjust the saturation at all - this was how it came straight off the RAW file!

Yep I like the lean on this one. I have tried shooting from the hip, but every time I realise I ant kidding anyone, I'd love to find a way which works well, this obviously did.

Thanks Julian - I typically set ISO 200 and a wide aperture top ensure a high shutter speed when shooting from the hip.

I set the AF point central, unless I know the subject will be offset - and shoot single shot AF

In daylight I'll get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze my motion and the subject motion

AF and comp are just luck and practice - I review my first few frames of a shoot on the LCD and try and tune my field of view and timing from there.

I had wondered whether to get a trigger so I need not touch the camera. I can trigger by touching the screen though. Truth being I never the less feel uncomfortable. So when I ask for a shot and they oblige, there is something quite satisfying having achieved a connection on mutual terms.

Agreed - the connection makes for a different feel in the shot

I think there is a place for both - the candid reaction, and the requested informal portrait
