Thanks very much Pete. What actually caught my eye was the color of the building. I need to get a color shot--if the light is the same--this coming week on the way home from work. Thanks again.
Yeah I agree, Chris. Same goes (in my opinion anyway) for the one of the apartment block I posted today. Maybe it's the black & white combined with the large grain that conjures images of Eastern Europe. (On the blog this morning I actually made that comparison about Eastern Europe.) Thanks for the observation, Chris.
I like the way the lighting has been caught with it striking some walls and not others. I guess this was taken in the morning or the in evening. What is it, looks like a power station.
It does have a certain GDR look about it. Certainly has the grain and tonal range of some of the more available Eastern European materials. Have a look at the work of Reinhard Füssel on http://www.babelsberg-studio.com/ and you'll see what I mean. Shot of DDR film and printed on the middle grade DDR paper (the public had very little choice of materials and there were mostly not very good).
Thank you, Paul. Actually I don't know exactly what the building is. I think it has something to do with the local department of water and power. However, I was taking the photos from an area behind the building (and not meant to be accessible to the public) so I didn't see a sign or anything. You're right about the lighting--the shot was taken in the early evening, around 6:45 pm. Thanks again.
