New PC help required please

I've had continual problems since getting back from the Peak District nearly a year ago. Smart filters playing up, image with white blocks and more recently NVIDIA driver crashes. The last one has been getting worse and I can now guarantee at least two per image, needing a total reboot. It's no longer a pleasure and although we can't afford it, we're talking about a new computer. The current one only has 3Gb of memory, which can't be increased and image sizes of around 325Mb are, I think, just too much.

Can someone please advise as to whether a Windows 64 OS will be OK with my CS5 and Nik Collection. I really can't afford to upgrade Photoshop and this is unlikely to change. I'm not sure about the Organizer that goes with Elements 6.0 because that is the only thing I can use at the moment to get my scanned images in date order. If that wouldn't work, then I probably need to know now so I can finish the job on the old PC.

Anyone? I don't understand any of this. My husband is fairly good with computers, but he doesn't understand my software. I've been trying to Google for information, but it's going over my head and I feel like giving up. I was on the point of cancelling my trip to Cornwall this morning - it seems pointless if I can't process any of the images :(

Windows 7 will be, it on this machine. Was running CS5 just fine.

I'm not convinced on the initial problem though.

You can always try running older programs in compatibility mode first. Once installed right click on the application icon (in the program files, or program files (x86), for older programs (both folders on your c:, then select Properties. The Compatibility option is in the box that appears. Select the version of windows that you currently have now and set program to Run As Administrator.
