This thread has been quiet for a while, so I think it's time for a little effort to bring things up to date.
Back in July 2022, I got myself a Yashica Electro 35 in order to see whether it would have been a better choice than the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s that I bought (and love to use). I played with the Electro for a while and decided that I had made the right choice with the Hi-Matic and would be sticking with it, so I resolved to sell it. (
More on the Electro here) I also decided to move some more cameras out to lower my wife's blood pressure a little.
By August that year, I proudly reported that I had donated one camera to a friend. However, in that one month, to Mischa's despair, I had acquired three more - a Sony NEX 5 converted to full sprectrum, a Canon EOS 30 to provide a film body for my EOS lenses and, the dream of my late teenage years, a Pentax LX.
Things went quiet for a bit and I gave another camera away to a work colleague's daughter but added four, due to my status as one of the only film shooters in the local photo society and someone who is willing to test their ability to function properly. From time to time, cameras are donated to the club and it always seems to turn out that after that, they stay with me in the hope that, one day, a member will decide to 'have a go at film'. That hasn't happened yet!
So, two out and six in - things really aren't going to plan!
A friend gave me a Pentax Super A, which is something that interested me since I owned it's little brother, the P30. The original owner also had a P30 to get rid of and, since I had one, it went to another friend. That P30 died soon after Peter tried it, so I gave him mine.
This was more like it: One in, one out!
Then, back in November last year I decided that it was time I got myself a rangefinder with interchangeable lens capability and bought something about which I will tell in a later post.
A couple of months ago, a Pentax K3 Mk III Monochrome somehow landed at the front door and I have loved using it almost exclusively for digital photography since then. What a wonderful camera it is!
Last month, I sold the Yashica FX-3 that I restored to working condition, as mentioned much earlier in this thread. I originally bought it for £8.50(!) and sold it to a friend for a price set to cover what I had spent on the camera. She fell in love with it at first sight.
The upshot is that over two years, my 'big camera clear-out' has amounted to a net gain of five cameras.
...the Electro 35 is still here.
