Another one taken about ten years ago. It was about this time of year, but absolutely freezing and we found ourselves at the end of the day on the beach at Hastings. It was cloudy, but already past sunset and there was a short period when the water had a luminescent quality. I was set up for a long exposure, but the cold had got to my brain and I forgot to set the camera on Bulb. Of course, the shutter wouldn't close when I pressed the cable release for the second time and I shouted to my husband up above that the camera wasn't working properly. How wrong I was. I would have messed up the shot, but my trusty OM2n sat there on the tripod quietly gathering light until it had the perfect exposure (which was about 50% more than I would have given). Ilford film, probably FP4 and the exposure was around 12 seconds.
This roll of film has absolutely the worst sharp grain, specks, drying marks and scratches like someone has tried to clean it with a Brillo pad. It's taken hours to clean up the mess and I had to use some soft focus and a little fog along the top to calm everything down. Needless to say I didn't use that lab again...
The shot cannot be repeated. We went back a couple of years ago with the Sony and the action of the waves meant these rocks had disappeared under several tons of shingle.
