Panasonic have announced a pair of new "Power zoom" lenses for their compact interchangeable lens camera system camera.
This to me represents somewhat of a breakthrough in this area, especially when it comes to the new 14-42mm.
It appears to be around the same size as the 20mm 1.7 pancake lens!

This really puts Panasonic ahead of the games in this area for me...
This is where sony fall short for me, great small cameras, massive lenses, it almost nullifies the point of owning the camera in the first place.
This new lens from panasonic is a big jump in the right direction for me!
They have also released the 45-175mm
Both lenses are zoomed in and out with a level on the lens barrel, perhaps a step away from the familiar for some people looking down from slrs, but certainly a step closer for those looking up from compact cameras. They are also supposedly silent as they zoom meaning they can be used for video!
