Well, if your name is Vincent Laforet you can

One Degree from Vincent Laforet on Vimeo.

The angle of video of a Canon 600mm f4 EF Lens with a 2X converter on a RED Epic, is roughly one degree. (1 Degree, 45 arcminutes horizontally to be exact.)

The focal length in terms of 35mm is more than 3400mm – not too shabby when you consider this was shot at 4K, 120fps in full RAW on the Epic.

LOL - I'll start a donations thread Hamish, everyone can chip in - I'm sure we'll raise enough do$h in no time! ;)

I do have the both the 1.4 and 2x extenders - they work exceptionally well on the 300 and 600, and come in very handy for getting that extra reach.

Here's a surf shot I may have posted before, taken at Swarmi's break - 1200mm, no cropping - 1D.

I was already in the water up to my knees, so needed the 2x to get the shot!

Swami's is a world famous break - and when the swell's come in on a winter storm, it's packed with surfers.

Switch to the Satellite view, and you'll see the waves on the break.

How well does the AF work at max f/8 Chris? and the metering? i was always lead to belive that most slrs are really only designed to function properly up to f6.3...

The shot is awesome ... I have seen it before, but im not sure i grasped the level of kit involved...
the map is just of the whole of north America though... :)

Mmmm, odd, the map shows the correct location when I look at it :(

AF works fine with the center AF point, the shot above was taken using AI Servo tracking, and it did a good job. The 1 Series bodies are the only ones that are guaranteed to do this with this set-up.

Metering works just fine - the 2x on the 600mm loses a little contrast in the final image, but this can be fixed in RAW PP.

Very odd - looks like this to me:

ok, just changed the map link - how's it look now?

i think this is the point here ... because of the sensor ...

no?

Forgot about the 120fps bit:D, but the 4k is about 10mp so that easily done. They still haven't nailed down the actual production model of the epic yet, i think we just got the 4th version to test. Wonder if they've fixed the overheating yet? Or maybe it's only when they're synced for 3D that they have give so much trouble.
