I'm down in Washington, DC for the week and they have just put out the Rent a Bikes after winter storage.

That's a cracking find Glenn - nice timing

I did DC for a day one summer - the humidity nearly killed me!

A seemingly incongruous juxtaposition there, Glenn, but the more I look at it, the more connections I see in form and function.

It's OK, I've just finished my first coffee of the day :)

Thanks everyone. One of the reasons I always carry a camera is that it makes me look...and see things that just walking doesn't. This shot was taken as I crossed the street. As I walked this picture came into view, I tried to frame as best I could and I shot...and kept on walking. It was one of those that I wondered if it would look anything like I saw it. And it pretty much did.

Nice comp. I like the juxtaposition between the bikes and the building.

I see a row of these bikes at the Metro stop near my daughter's home in DC. She says the biggest problem they have is that people will rent a bike in her neighborhood for the mostly downhill ride to downtown. Then, rather than pedal uphill to go home at the end of the day, they will leave the bike downtown and take the Metro home. So the company renting the bikes has to constantly move bike back up the hills at night so they can be rented again the next day.

Ralph...it's actually not a problem. That is the main point of their existance. They have them in Boston and they have become a huge hit. People use them to get to the subway...or place of work...and park them. Then after work they go the other way. As I walk around town they are always moving them around to met the demand. I talked to one of the movers and he said they have a computer program that tells them where and when.

I understand that. But if your at the top of the hill and want bike in the late afternoon or early evening there is frien no one to be had because they are all downtown. But it is a great way to get around when the weather is good. And I always enjoy seeing folks all dress up for work with high heels and all riding a bike down the street!

Glenn, this is a stunningly beautiful composition. Perfection! :)
