Rustic mountain stream

With autumn almost with us here in South Africa I decide to go for a hike on the weekend in the slightly cooler temperatures to look for potential fall color shooting locations. I came across this little waterfall, I would have loved to shoot a longer exposure to get more movement in the water but I did not have a tripod with me so the slowest I could manage, hand-held hanging out over the stream was 1/3 sec (at 90mm) Without IS even that would have been impossible!

Thanks for looking!

I think the amount of movement there is just right Rudi. I kind of get a bit tired of seeing too many long exposure moving water shots. I never think of autumn colours and S Africa together but of course senescence occurs everywhere but I guess it just just less synchronised than in higher latitudes. Do you see large swathes of trees turning at the same time?

Hi Pete,

Thanks, yes, I agree, sometimes the long exposures of flowing water is way overdone.....

We do not get the same volume of autumn colors but it does last for quite a while. Many trees/plants do not change at all and keep their leaves the whole year. There are places where it can be quite spectacular though and it is something that is sadly missing from my collection.

Beautiful colours and hats off to you for the sharp hand-help exposure!

Been looking for local waterfalls myself to have a go with my ND filters, so I'll have to be careful with overly long exposures.
