Shooting With Fast Primes

Following up on the discussion started in the thread http://www.realphotographersforum.com/people-portraits/2852-new-lens-papa.html around fast primes, wide apertures and narrow DOF - here's an excellent write-up by local (to me) wedding photographer, Melissa Jill.

Melissa has written how-to's on wedding photography using her favorite three fast lenses - the 24mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2, and 70-200mm f2.8 - illustrating her points with a stunning series of images.

She's a wide open sort of gal - by which I mean she rarely shoots stopped down at all! :D

There is a separate write up for each lens - a tour de force, and quite outstanding willingness to share her 'secrets' - a US Hamish in fact! :p

She has also done a non-technical write-up on depth of field - http://www.melissajill.com/blog.cfm?postID=886&depth-of-field-tutorial

And another on using off-shutter release AF techniques - http://www.melissajill.com/blog.cfm?postID=690&f-a-q-back-button-focusing

The rest of her website is well worth a browse - inspiring stuff - I might pop by and take her up on the offer of lunch sometime, and pick her brain some more :)
