I've blended t shots together to see if I can get the effect of having some detail in the broken glass and the frame. Cant make up my mind if its to obvious that I've done this but here it is anyway. More Bunny sacrifice or in someones case BOOBIES!

Now that's the shot!!
I like that a lot mate, very nice indeed, makes a lot more sence to me that shot i couldn't quite get my head round the other version ... This is a huge improvement to my eye!

Paul - well worth the effort - that last blended shot is really atmospheric

Cheers guys, I was worried that it may have looked a little obvious that I had blended the shots but I think thats because I know that I have so I keeping looking for give aways that maybe arent there. I might have another tweak though AAARRGGGGHHH my head hurts!

You're heading down the HDR photography route, which suspends 'reality' to produce hyper-real image blends.

It can be very effective, as it delivers the shot your brain saw, but a single image capture couldn't show.

Been tempted myself, but not made the plunge yet - although the magazine I get (Outdoor Photographer) was all over HDR the other month, as the best thing since sliced bread!

I see a lot of HDR stuff on the web but I don,t like it very much. Blending shots to get otherwise impossible dynamic ranges is fine, I feel. However there are loads of quite frankly boring shots that have been made to look more interesting than they are by the OTT application of the various adjustments HDR software gives. Effects when used properly are there not for show but to filter out or enhance aspects of the image so that the viewer can see on a 2d image what caught the photographers eye in the real 3d world. I have never thought that the random application of effects holds much merit. Much of HDR these days was born out of just that. Penny farthings drawn out in gold twine on black velvet was all the rage in the 70's. Nowadays they are something best left forgotten. It wouldn't surprise me if much of the over stylised HDR goes the same way and what remains is the considered use of HDR to overcome the technical shortcomings of the media, pretty much what it the reason why HDR came about in the first place decades ago.

Just my IMHO 2pence worth!

Your doing my trick Paul, getting your self in a fuss with indecision ... Sometimes I get so obsessed with an image the only way to work out what is best for it is to leave it well alone for a few days and then come back to it with fresh eyes!

I totally agree. This is what I always force myself to do in the darkroom. It's easy to get obsessed with tweaking detail and making subtle variations in prints. Two days later, however, and, as often as not, you can't even see the subtle adjustments you made let alone work out why you were making them. Leave it alone for a few days and then if you feel compelled to fiddle, try going back tot he original file and re-working it from scratch: you'll either end up back where you were or have a totally different interpretation on your hands!

I know what you guys mean, I got in a similar rut with the Watchpoint photo that you guys gave me a lot of help on. I realised this morning that part of the problem was in the actual shot and not masking. I've gone back to the raw images and started again but I think you're right, I should go slow on this so I can see the wood for the trees.

I like the PP a lot more in the previous shots rather then this one, although I'm not keen on the 'frame' because it has become just that, i would have much preferred that the broken window would be part of the story as in having the viewer look from out side in.

Vic

Fair point Vic. I've just tried another rehash with a few tweaks to the CP. I'm wondering if I should re shoot it with the window frame in the shot and blend the image with 2 exposures rather than 2 images. I drive past the place every day so not a problem to do. This is closer to what I want I think.
