Snow in Southern Arizona

Southern Arizona is know for it's mild winters and warm temperatures. This year has been a real exception with many mornings below freezing. About a week ago we go snow on the valley floor. Here is a sunrise shot of the San Rita mountains the day after the snow. You can still see snow just above the valley floor.

Nice pano. I like the way the sunlight is playing a funny trick, illuminating the left side of the mountains under the cloud cap. Am I interpreting that bit of light correctly?

It certainly has been an odd season this year - loving the morning colors Dennis

I kept looking at this trying to work out what is going on with the light, it certainly held my interest! Is there a tall mountain way off to the left that is casting a shadow on all but the top of the mountain we can see?

This is a sunrise shot looking east. The light often plays nicely under the clouds while the morning shade slowly shift to full daylight. Here is the same view but in the evening with sunset light.

The San Rita mountains are 9,500 feet, ( approximately 3,000 meters) and valley is 3,000 feet. These mountains are on the main north south bird migration flyway and over 300 species migrate through them.
