I actually bought/received this lens today, although there's a slight fault with it as it shows an error code "err01" quite often, need to post it off to Canon UK next week for a repair/fix.

Nicely done Peter - you sometimes get the Err01 message when the contacts on the lens need cleaning

I use a hard eraser (typewriter eraser) and make sure that the crud doesn't fall into the lens as I use it to clean the contacts.

Worth a shot before you pay Canon

I must use isopropyl alcohol cleaner and a cotton bud on the 24-105mm lens contacts, see if that helps.......(??)

Canon UK have quoted me £104 cost to fix/repair my EF 24-105mm f/4 L lens (inc postage), from the 1st August 2013 this price rises to £156 etc....
