The California Museum of Photography

We visited the town of Riverside yesterday. My eldest daughter, Caitlin (20), is in her Junior year as a student at the University of California at Riverside. Caiti is a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. (Indeed, and forgive me for this, I am inclined to boast that she is President of the chapter this year.)

Yesterday was Founder's Day, an annual DG event that celebrates the women who founded the society 150 years ago as well as the achievements of the girls in the current chapter, and also gives the girls' families a chance to see what's going on with the chapter, meet each other and have a nice lunch. The event was held at the Mission Inn, a quite famous hotel.

Just along the road from the Mission Inn stands the California Museum of Photography, a delightful place to spend an hour or two. The museum is run by the university. Admission is very reasonable indeed,... $3.00; but free for students and anyone over 55 years.

After the DG event we spent an hour or so at the museum. Here are a few foties. (Are you sitting down? Ok,...they're digital.)

Cropping. Digital photographs. I'm beginning to suspect that one of them there aliens has abducted our Brian and put a substitute in place!!

Great series Brian (or Xfghjky%** as he is known to his colleagues in the Mother Ship). And what a great museum. I love the just missed person and 'The Shadow'. I also like the way the legs in the shot of the man in the hat and woman don't quite look like they belong to the torsos (or was this the result of some alien experiment?!). And the mysterious emissary is fabulous - you can tell the tone / expression despite it being a silhouette (or holographic projection).

Xfghjky%**
I've been called worse! ;)

Point of Order: I didn't actually crop anything myself,...I just suggested someone else do it! :p

Pete, its ALL the result of some alien experiment!:D

Thanks very much Pete. Yeah, it is a great wee museum. I always try to go when I'm oot there in Riverside.

He's clearly been abducted Pete, but his replacement takes wonderful digital photos, so it's not all bad! :D

Great looking location alien Brian - will put it on my list for a visit with SWMBO

You had me laughing my head-off with the 'SWMBO Sent An Emissary to Summon Me' shot :D

I feel your pain aline Brian, I feel you pain ;)

Thanks a lot, Chris. LOL! Yes,...you must get out there one of these days. The featured exhibits change every couple of months, but there is also the permanent collection of cameras and images. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Really liking Meg's Right Eye! Great shot. Like the presidents too.

How many of those older cameras have you used, Chris?

Got name wrong. The question was for you Brian. Wasn't paying enough attention I guess!

Maybe only 3 or 4, Ralph. Brownie Hawkeye Flash for sure,...I think there was a Rolleiflex TLR in there and I've used one of them,...they had a Polaroid Spectra and I've used one of them,...I may have used one or another of the other Brownie box cameras.

Oh,...and over the weekend I bought a "Kodak No 2C Cartridge Hawkeye Model C Box Camera" off E-bay. It takes 120 film and the seller assures me the shutter works and there's a spool and so on. So I'm hopeful of getting some pics out of that over the next couple of weeks.
