The Dory Fishing Fleet of Newport Beach

Took this shot from Newport Beach Pier. That little enclosure of ramshackle buildings projecting out onto the sandis where the Dory Fishing Fleet plies their trade. I took this shot just at about dawn. Mamiya C330 and Ilford PanF film.

Here are a few shots from the inside. The BW ones are from the Mamiya. The color ones from my XA and with Kodak Portra 400 film.

I like the reportage feel in #5 a lot

That's a great set of shots mate
They are all really nice, but contrary to my current interests in square b&w photos I really like the colour ones, the colours give a nice tangible feel to an atmosphere I think!

Thanks very much, Hamish. (That you can appreciate the color shots whilst sporting a current affinity for square BW just shows how flexible and open your mind is. A sign of high intelligence in my opinion!:))

Excellent series Brian. I really like the first shot. The way the tops of the palms give a 'spotty' look to the sky that reflects somehow the distribution of gulls on the sand. Very satisfying. And I also like the documentary series as well. I'm beginning to enjoy such sequences of shots more and more I think.

My god, Pete. You always see things I don't see. Then when I look to see what you said you've seen, I see 'em!:)

Thanks Pete. I'm starting to like the notion of the photo "essay," as it were. Stringing together a few related shots for the purpose of giving a more holistic view.
