The Lincolnshire 'Fitties'

Tucked right up at the top, left corner of Lincolnshire is the Humber Estuary, a typical expanse of muddy saltmarshes where they have been known for over one hundred years as The Fitties. Behind this marshland are sand dunes and then low lying fields of great richness for the growing of crops. On the very edge of the marsh and the dunes is an area known as the Plotlands where the Plotlanders made their home a century or more back. This all started off as old wooden shepherds huts and shelters from the wars but eventually turned into more modern chalets. There is one road in and the same road out making the place quite isolated. For me personally because of my taste in music, the very great Robert Wyatt and his wife/family chose to live here up until maybe 2010. The place inspires in many different ways but always artistically. Silent and brooding all but for the Avocets, Curlews and Skylarks.

My spiritual home, the place I was born.

Oh yes, images taken using my Nikon D4S with either an 18mm wide zoom or 135mm f2 focus decouple lens.

Both images shot in 1994 using Konica 750 infra red film developed in Ilford ID11. The first one is of the Humber Estuary from the Fitties at Humberston in Lincolnshire, the second is farther down the coast at Donna Nook. The object is an approach marker for the RAF firing range.

The old wooden groynes made an excellent foreground but when I went a year later to maybe get a better shot, they had completely gone.

The huge wood and concrete approach marker to the range has long been removed now. There were three of them forming an arrow shape.

Bronica ETRS with a 40mm lens and R72 filter. Konica 750 IR film.
